JUBA — South Sudan’s diplomatic core witnessed a significant moment of transition as Ambassador Simon expressed profound gratitude to His Excellency President Salva Kiir Mayardit following an official audience with executive leadership. The engagement marks the formal preparation for Ambassador Simon and his colleagues to assume their diplomatic posts and represent South Sudan’s national interests abroad.
Speaking in high spirits following the meeting, Ambassador Simon commended the seamless coordination within the executive branch throughout the transition. He extended his appreciation to President Kiir for placing trust in the newly appointed envoys, emphasizing their commitment to advancing the nation’s foreign policy goals and protecting South Sudanese citizens abroad.
Acknowledging Executive Leadership and Facilitation
Ambassador Simon highlighted the key roles played by senior officials in guiding the transition. He offered special thanks to Hon. Africano Mande, Minister of Presidential Affairs, for his leadership and counsel.
Furthermore, he acknowledged the pivotal administrative support provided by the Executive Office Secretariat under the direction of Maj. Gen. James Deng Wal, Brig. Gen. Akol Santo, and Ambassador Sunday Chot Riek. He noted that their facilitation ensured a smooth operational handover as the diplomatic team prepares to take up their respective assignments.
Strengthening Ties with Kenya
Focusing on his primary mission in Nairobi, Ambassador Simon outlined the key strategic priorities for his tenure in Kenya.
“I am deeply honored by the trust placed in me by the leadership,” Ambassador Simon stated, praising the unwavering cooperation within the presidency. “I am prepared and enthusiastic to begin this critical mission in Kenya to strengthen our bilateral relations, serve our diaspora community, and advance our shared regional interests.”
As South Sudan continues to solidify its regional partnerships within the East African Community (EAC), Ambassador Simon’s deployment to Nairobi is expected to deepen economic ties, streamline trade corridors, and enhance welfare support for the large South Sudanese diaspora living and studying in Kenya.
